SOL-I-TARY:
1) taken, passed, or performed without companions.
2) occurring singly and not as part of a group or cluster.
Often, but not always, my best work is created while I’m alone. While I enjoy the company of others, I find that solitude is much more beneficial to my creative process. I’m not saying these images represent my best work, but to me they do represent “solitary.”
Amidst the clouds, a solitary photographer near the summit of Mt. Washington, NH.
Me and my Five Fingers, solitary and enjoying the view from Bald Knob, overlooking Castle In The Clouds, Moultonborough, NH.
A mute swan rests, solitary as it seemingly admires its reflection, Durham, NH.
Solitary in the sand dunes, a snowy owl enjoys the early sunlight at Hampton Beach State Park, NH.
Nice shots Jeff …really like the first one. And I agree with you on the creative process and solitude. Good post.
Thank you!
Gotta love the Five Fingers overlooking our waterfall shoot spot! Nice submission to the weekly challenge, Jeff.
How are the fall colors up North looking? Anything starting to turn yet?
– Nate
They are starting, slowly but surely! I’ve got a few good hikes planned thanks to tips from a few good friends that spend a lot of time in the mountains. This WILL be the year I get the fall shots from high in the Whites I’ve been wanting. No more wishing, time to start doing!!!
Great interpretation and béautiful shots.
Greetings
Dina
Thank you very much Dina!
There is nothing wrong with being solitary amidst such a beautiful nature :). Your shoes tell me you hike a lot ;). Always nice to see one of your snowy owls …..
Thanks Paula. I don’t get out hiking as much as I’d like to, but that is changing this fall. I plan to make several long hikes into the White Mountains for my fall images this year. I’m done talking about it, time to start doing it!
Great Shots Jeff! I just have to say……. Oh those those with the toes…..
Thanks Ioanna, and I LOVE my Five Fingers!!! They are on my feet for most hiking/outdoor activity until it gets too cold to wear them 😀
Great pics, and what a pleasant surprise to stumble upon shots from NH, my home state.
Very nice!
Thank you Holly, and thanks for stopping by. Any time you need a taste of “home,” you know where to find it 😉
Excellent as always! So you like the Vibrams too, huh? My cousin swears by them! 🙂
I LOVE my Five Fingers! As close to bare-foot as you can get!
cute shoes…but the other images are really lovely…hehehe
Thanks Jo!
Yeah, not your best….but still very beautiful 🙂
Agreed, and thank you!
Nice pics Jeff!
Thank you very much 🙂
Beautiful swan photo. The lone photographer there reminds me of ‘desolation peak’ in this book I read. I think it was in a Jack Kerouac book.
Thanks Cardinal. I wish I could say I was as well read, but my idea of good literature usually means something by Stephen King or Dean Koontz. 😀
Stephen King is good. I loved The Green Mile, both the book and the movie. I haven’t read his other books, but I’ve seen quite a few Stephen King movies.
As an avid fan, most of the movies are disappointments after having read the books. The Green Mile was one of the exceptions. The movies are usually good on there own, but I can’t stop myself from comparing them to the book. Watching the movie first sounds like it might be the way to go 🙂
I agree that The Green Mile was close to the book. If you watch the movie first, you’ll just be able to picture the movie in your head and not make up your own “mental images”. I believe the best thing is to read the book first.
I’m a believer that solitude can encourage creativity and I love the photo of the lone photographer on Washington. Nice job!
Thank you Suzanne! I think you’re right. Most of what I consider my best work was created while I was alone. Probably because I like to talk, and if I’m gabbing, I’m not creating. 😀
