“Warning, Ice Fall Danger.”
From my last trip into Tuckerman Ravine, this sign should get your attention!
However, the graphics on this sign, which I missed in the pre-dawn darkness at the base of the trail, made me laugh.
Levity aside, the danger is very real. The giant block of blue ice in this photo, came from high on the wall of the ravine behind me!
“No Swimming.”
Personally, I don’t need a sign to tell me that.
Nice signs but love your “Falls in the fall” of you last photo.
Thanks Scott. Summer has only just begun, but I’m already looking forward to fall again.
no swimming. lol 🙂
My thoughts exactly!
Very nice photos and the warnings should be explanatory enough to get people’s attention. If people read these warning signs and still end up getting killed by a block of ice, I guess they can be nominated for the Darwin awards.
These are terrific Jeff … I had a good belly laugh 🙂 and what a way to round it up with your legendary waterfall in fall pic :D. Beautiful!!!!
Thanks Paula! Every time I look at the second photo I laugh 😀
When I look at the “No Swimming” sign in the last I often wonder if, when I was much younger, with a much bigger sense of adventure, if I would have heeded that sign.
(The answer is probably no :-P)
😀
great shot! and real warning signs
Thank you! And yes, very real. The big blue ball of ice in the photo below most likely came from high on the wall behind me! https://jeffsinonphotography.wordpress.com/2013/03/15/chasing-pink-avoiding-avalanches/lost-in-the-grandeur-me-in-the-bowl-of-tuckerman-ravine/
I like it. A sense of humour while detailing a real danger.
Great post Jeff! Indeed some places out there can be dangerous…it’s amazing and unfortunate that some folks still need a sign telling them what to do and what not to do. The signs are pretty funny though…and swimming there would certainly be a bumpy ride!
You’re right Jeff – the graphics are a hoot!!
The question is, if I’m in an ice fall, will I turn into a cartoon stick figure as I run away? 😉
LOL – great sign! It makes me want to post one taken by my husband when he was visiting his brother in Botswana…I will just leave the mystery for now 😉
Thanks! I get a laugh every time I look at it.
