What to expect.

All workshops include walking and or light to moderate hiking over uneven ground, proper footwear with good traction is highly recommended.

Both single and multiple day workshops include guided instruction for the duration of the workshop.

Multi-day workshops normally begin at noon on Friday and run through sunset Sunday evening. Once all participants arrive on Friday, after introductions we’ll go over recommended gear selection for the weekend, as well as what to expect at the various locations we’ll be visiting throughout the weekend.

Plan on getting up bright and early each morning so that we may be on location in time for the golden hours of sunrise. During each mornings shoot I’ll share various tips and techniques I regularly use while making a photograph. I’ll also be available to answer any questions participants may have.

Each mornings session usually lasts from 1-3 hours depending on the light, location, and client needs or interests.

After each mornings session it’s time for breakfast and coffee! Then it’s time for a mid-day break where we may share images, go over some post processing techniques, or if the mood suits you, take a nap to rest up in preparation for the afternoon shooting session.*

*This schedule may be altered during my spring Waterfall Workshops. If we’re lucky enough to have rainy/drizzly weather, rather than getting up before the sun, participants will be able to sleep in a little later as the even light of the overcast day will allow us to shoot throughout the day. Therefore rather than stopping for a mid-day break we may shoot through the day until mid afternoon, or as long as the nice even light allows.

Bottled water and snacks may be available. Please inform me of any dietary restrictions prior to the first day of the workshop.

What to bring.

~ DSLR or mirrorless, interchangeable lens camera.

~ Wide angle zoom lens. Also, a medium telephoto lens may come in handy for isolating key elements in the scene.

~ Sturdy Tripod.

~ The weather in the mountains can be unpredictable, warm layers(even in summer) as well as a rain jacket are recommended.

~ Spare batteries and memory cards. Don’t forget your battery charger!

~ Laptop with your image editing software of choice. I personally use and recommend Adobe Lightroom Classic CC and the Nik Collection by DxO.

~ A headlamp, with spare batteries (we will be walking/hiking in low light prior to sunrise and after sunset).

~ Footwear with good traction.

~ Lens filters. Neutral Density, Graduated Neutral Density, and Circular Polarizer. A polarizer is HIGHLY recommended if you’re planning to attend a waterfall workshop.

~ Remote shutter release.

~ Trekking poles. Very handy for navigating moderately steep and uneven terrain.

~ Water shoes. During my waterfall workshops I encourage participants to get right in the water for unique angles and compositions.

Not Included.

Meals and lodging are not included. A list of budget friendly motels will be provided on request. Occasionally I’ll arrange an AirBnB with space available at a reasonable cost on a first come first served basis.

Transportation is not included. To avoid congestion at trail heads and parking areas carpooling is highly encouraged.

A deposit is required to reserve a spot on all workshops, with the balance due a minimum of 30 days prior to the start of the workshop by using the appropriate payment option on each workshop page. (Deposit, Balance Due, Pay in Full)

Cancellations and Refunds.

All fees paid will be fully refunded if cancellation is made more than 30 days prior to the workshop start date. Cancellations made less than 30 days but more than 14 days prior to the start of the workshop will receive a refund less a $100 cancelation fee. No refunds will be given if cancellations are made less than 14 days prior to the workshop start date.

However, life happens. I realize there are going to be unforeseen circumstances that require cancelation. With this in mind should there be a need for an unexpected last minute cancelation within the 14 day No Refund period, all fees paid less the $100 cancelation fee may be applied to a future workshop.

Weather Cancelation.

All workshops and tours are held rain or shine. In the event that heavy rain forces a cancellation(more than 5 hours) on a single day workshop, a discount of 25% will be given towards a future single day workshop. In the event of weather forced cancellation on a 2 day workshop(loss of more than one full day) a 30% discount will be given towards a future 2 day workshop.
